Good writers write on schedule not just whenever. So many bloggers go at it one post at a time with no direction in mind. I’ll admit, when I first started blogging, I was the definition of a haphazard bogger. I never knew what I was going to post, but, to pat myself on the back, I did post something everyday. Having an editorial calendar and taking your blogging seriously is only the first step of many in taking your blog, website, or writing project to the next level. So, be honest and cast your vote in the poll below. When you’re done, go check out yesterday’s video, “How to Create an Editorial Calendar for Your Blog”

If you already use an editorial calendar, check the video out anyway. It details my method, some great tools to creating blog posts, and my posting strategy for The Success Center. Also, let me know your process for creating an editorial calendar or why you don’t use one in the comments below.

I definitely agree with using an editorial calendar because it makes it so much easier for you to blog. The best way to blog in my opinion is to have a blueprint. I'm always coming up with different ideas and when you take the time to plot them out on a calendar you're able to see how you can arrange your topics in such a way that doesn't cause your readers to get bored by constantly discussing the same topic.

For example, if your blog discusses social media you might not want to discuss Twitter for 5 days in a row. You want to mix it up with discussing topics such as forums, Facebook, etc. A calendar enables you to “spice” up your blog rather than haphazardly trying to rely on your memory. Great post!

    Hey Rod,

Definitely a timely post for me. I've tried a calendar before… and failed. My most recent attempt to keep up with post ideas has been to create a draft post in WordPress. Yeah, that doesn't work.

With traffic and activity increasing around jtrigsby.com, I've had creating (and keeping up with / staying accountable to) an editorial calendar occupying a prominent place on my todo list. Well, it did have a prominent place… now I have the next two weeks planned out! Now comes sticking to it!

Thanks for the kick in the rear there buddy! We all need one from time to time! Now if I could build one like this one

Hey, thank you Latosha. I couldn't agree with you more, you've got to “spice up” your blog by having a mixture of posts instead of the same ol, same ol. That really gets repetitive and people won't value or return if you're posting the same stuff over and over.

Haha. Nice “kick in the rear!” Love it! With your increasing traffic you'll definitely want to start planning more to stay consistent and keep driving traffic. Thanks for your thoughts sir!
