Great question! Don't we all need to figure out our own definition before we try to do anything? But how many of us do?

As a Christian, my general definition is this: Success for Christians = Submission to Christ. It doesn't have anything to do with our own personal results, the way the business world wants to make it seem. That's incredibly freeing... and in fact leads to amazing results as a byproduct.

Of course, drilling into the details of that definition for each of us personally is a little messier... or at least we make it feel that way.

However, the deepest cry of my heart is that I may be able to hear these words from my Creator when I stand before him at the end of time: Matthew 25:21 (New International Version) 21"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'

Just as you were pointing out, as we live up to our full potential as human beings, faithfully and courageously living out big dreams to serve and impact others, if we have done that while living within the guidelines of Scripture, I don't believe we can ask for any greater success.

Hey Rod, Awesome post from back in the day! I really can relate and look forward to every new day to help someone. Be it, holding the door open or help carry a baby stroller down the steps to the subway! Small examples but I'm sure you get the picture. I have started a personal training fitness company (lefthookfitness.com) and I want to promote well being through exercise! Of course I want to make money and be able to provide the better things in life for myself and family. However my focus has been to provide a service that will alter lives. In some cases save lives. When this is accomplished then I have succeeded, in-turn the compensation is ten fold through referrals and testimonials.

I've always like to think of success as the journey and not a destination. As Christians, we are already joint heirs with Christ. Talk about success! It is now the journey we must take to become what we already are. Each individual step towards that is a success, but so is the journey itself.
