If you’re not maximizing social media for your business then you’re really missing out on great relationships, referrals, website/blog traffic, connections, and opportunities to grow your business. My marketing platform of choice is Twitter. I love the relationships and connections it brings.

Yesterday, a firestorm of discussion started with the post, The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Twitter Success. (I’ll be sharing how to have your blog post go viral in next week’s upcoming edition of, “Success Tips!”) In it I expressed why it’s my platform of choice and few ways (understatement) you can maximize it for your business.

Now, it’s your turn. What social platform do you use the most to get referrals, new clients, grow relationships, and etc? Cast your vote in this quick poll and be sure to elaborate in the comments section below.

What's Your Social Media Marketing Platform of Choice?

  • Twitter (60%, 6 Votes)
  • Facebook (30%, 3 Votes)
  • Other (10%, 1 Votes)
  • Linkedin (0%, 0 Votes)
  • Ning (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 10

Great poll, Rod, I too find it interesting what people consider their “main” networking platform. I was just speaking last week about this very topic. I think many get caught up in what they *should* be using, even if it's not the right fit for them. Yes, Twitter is popular, but if you're not comfortable there, go somewhere else where you are! I think that's ultimately important, as the platforms will change over the years, but your method for networking online will not. Do what makes you the comfiest. :)

That being said, I answered that my main platform is Twitter, but I have really been using DailyBooth a lot lately, too. It's such a small, targeted niche right now (and there's just something about photos that's so much more personal)…I have made incredibly strong connections in very short periods of time there. Very fun!

Annie, it's interesting you mentioned the Daily Booth. I'll have to go there at some point. I don't know that I really have a 'main' platform. I consider blogs, twitter, facebook, stumbleupon, and digg to be my main social networking and bookmarking sites. Recently I happened upon Posterous, and I love it because it looks like a blog, allows you to tweet the content, but then also autoposts to LinkedIn, Twitter, Delicious, (and another site I can't remember). Furthermore, they will add more places to auto post to. I also like to hob nob at BlogCatalog once in a while. And there a handful of Ning sites I hang out at related to my niche.

Hey Steve, that's awesome that you use Digg and SU and Posterous on a regular basis. Those are all major growth areas for me. Definitely check-out DailyBooth! I'd be glad to give you a beginner's tutorial and explain why I've made such great connections. :)

Thanks for commenting, Annie, love your advice to find where you're most comfortable. I agree, the platforms will definitely change, grow, mature, and evolve as we go on. That's why it's important to not put all your eggs in one basket, but to diversify your reach.

I've seen your use of daily booth and I think it's pretty interesting and I get caught up in the photos. For me, I'm not comfortable there, but you fit right in. That's what's great about social media and the tools we use to reach people – it's their diversity and the opportunities they present to different people.

I love how you have a basket full of platforms to reach out to people, Steve. That's what it really takes, personally, I can't keep up with all of them. I've chosen to focus on my blog, Twitter, and Facebook. Tumblr is my side project – it's basically just stuff I find interesting whether anyone else likes it or not.

If you ever want to share a beginner's tutorial for daily booth in a guest post here, Annie, let me know. I think it'd be interesting to see how an entrepreneur could use it for business networking.
