Create a customer referral program – What’s better than hiring a team of sales people to go out and get you new business? How about a team of satisfied customers who bring you new business absolutely free! How can this dynamic display of customer “word-of-mouth marketing” be activated?
It’s actually really simple and doesn’t cost you a dime; ask for a referral! Here’s what you don’t do – “I’m glad you enjoyed our service. Please send us anyone you might know that could utilize it as well.” Here’s the correct way to ask for a referral – “I’m glad you enjoyed our products. Do you have any clients or colleagues that could definitely use our service or products for their business? If so, would you mind if we gave them a call?” That’s right, be bold, be specific, and get straight to the point! Don’t just stop there; make it a win-win situation for your current clients and future referrals. Offer your current client a specific percentage or dollar amount for each qualified lead turned sale they generate. And give your new customer a nice welcoming discount for trying out your product or service. It’s a 3-way tie! Everyone’s a winner!
Your current customers will always be better than any sales team if they’re satisfied with your products or services. Don’t be afraid to ask them for leads and referrals . . . you’ve earned it!
Tip: Make it easy for clients to refer you. Give them extra business cards, fliers, or brochures to give to their colleagues.
Tip: Got a website? Add a link on your website pointing to your client’s site and have them post a link on their website going back to yours. You’ll generate more web traffic and inquiries about your products or services than you can shake a stick at!
When the chips are down, money is tight, and you need some new customer life blood flowing through your business; don’t be discouraged . . . be creative! These techniques are easy to implement, great for generating a little business buzz, and more importantly absolutely free!

Great info on free marketing, although I haven’t read part 1 and 2 (will read them later) but having a referral program for your business is such a great idea! You see, I’ve been thinking about putting a referral program for my business and you just shed the light on me on how to do it.
