For the past couple of years there’s no doubt that you’ve heard the term social media. It’s been the buzz word of the web since the boom of blogs, YouTube, and social networking sites like Twitter. But what is it exactly? How can it benefit entrepreneurs, small business owners, and corporate brands alike? What unique challenges do Christian entrepreneurs face when it comes to social media and conducting business online?

In this series we’re going to explore the answers to these questions as well as take a look at different social media tools. It’s my hope and prayer that you will have a greater understanding of what social media is, how it can benefit you as an entrepreneur, what to watch out for as a Christian in the web 2.0 landscape, and ways to get the most out of it all.

To get things started, here is a quick video that will explain what social media is, “In Plain English.”

As we move along through the series, feel free to jump in the conversation at anytime by leaving a comment in the section below. I want to know your thoughts on social media, how you’re using it, how it’s benefiting your business, and more importantly, any questions on how to maximize it  for your business.

Thanks for the helpful video. These days, I think not only Facebook and Twitter, but also YouTube, Vimeo, and AdWido, are good places to go for social media marketing. Making an eye-catching video isn't too hard, and after putting it up on those sites it can spread very easily. Anyone wanting to be successful these days should jump on ideas like that to help get easy exposure for their small business.

Hey, Simonwww, you're right, there are a lot of ways to market “socially,” but the main thing to remember is to be “SOCIALBLE!” Lol. Don't just go in as a salesman. Getting a video together and making it go viral is fairly easy with the right elements. Great suggestion!
